A Garden in Town

Iglesias, Sardegna, Italy

"Atmospheres from the past"

After years of neglect and subsequent works around the restoration of the house, very little was left of this garden, with the exception of old Orange trees, a statuesque Walnut and a few scattered hedges, with the remains of the garden dominated by rampant weeds.

Maurizio Usai’s design here was led by the few evident traces of the past, remodelled with a contemporary look to create a garden of small cosy ‘rooms’ that can be enjoyed through the seasons by the owners.

The spirit of the old garden was retained however and renewed with a planting palette inspired by the Belle Epoque gardens, where roses, hellebores, irises and hydrangeas complete through their colours with the scent from the ancient Orange trees.
